Rep. Thomas Kutz, alongside Rep. Justin Fleming, has introduced a bill aimed at enhancing transparency for prospective Pennsylvania students exploring higher education options. The proposed legislation would mandate the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) to develop a comprehensive comparison tool to empower students in making well-informed decisions about their post-secondary education.

"Choosing a college and degree program are monumental decisions that lay the path for a student’s future and success," stated Rep. Thomas Kutz. "By providing students and their families with access to comprehensive and easily comparable information about institutions of higher education, we can help to ensure that they are able to make well-informed choices about their academic and financial futures."

The comparison tool outlined in the bill would encompass a range of data about institutions and programs of study, including factors such as affordability, student outcomes, employment demand, and student loan repayment rates. The aim is to enhance student success and alleviate the burden of student loan debt.

"PDE is already required to collect the data the comparison tool would feature; this legislation would simply require that it’s made available to the public in one easy-to-access location," highlighted Rep. Kutz.

The bill is designed to equip students with the necessary information to make educated decisions about their higher education journey. It seeks to streamline the process of comparing different institutions and programs, ultimately leading to more informed choices and better outcomes for students.
