Representative Barb Gleim (R-Cumberland) has announced that fire and emergency response organizations in the 199th Legislative District in Cumberland County will be receiving grants from the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program. The grants aim to support these organizations that provide essential services to the community.

"Our fire and EMS companies continue to be stretched thin while providing top-notch services to the communities they serve, which is why this funding is so vital," said Gleim. "I want to thank our first responders for always going above and beyond the call of duty to keep us safe."

The following local fire and ambulance companies have been awarded grants:

- Cumberland Goodwill Fire Rescue EMS - $15,000.

- Empire Friendship Firefighters Association - $15,000.

- Friendship Hose Co. 1 Inc. (Fire) - $14,034.

- Friendship Hose Co. 1 Inc. (EMS) - $15,000.

- Newburg Hopewell Volunteer Fire Co. - $13,832.

- North Middleton Township Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 - $16,173.

- Penn Township Volunteer Fire Co. - $13,839.

- West Pennsboro Volunteer Fire Co. - $13,450.

It is important to note that all companies that apply and meet the requirements outlined by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC) receive funding. These companies must file a grant agreement with OSFC to receive their grants.

The grants are made possible through a program created by the Legislature and administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and OSFC. The funding for these grants comes from the proceeds of slot machine gaming, rather than General Fund tax revenue. The grants are specifically granted for eligible projects including facilities, equipment, debt reduction, training, education, recruitment and retention, and several additional projects.

This funding will provide much-needed support to the local fire and ambulance companies, allowing them to continue their critical work in the community. Representative Gleim expressed her gratitude to the first responders for their dedication and commitment to keeping the community safe.
