Grace B. Luhrs University Elementary School issued the following announcement on Sept. 7.

Senior economics major Riley Brown worked on his career long game this summer as an intern at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, New York. Working under Golf and Business Operations, Brown gained experience in a variety of areas. From the retail shop to large golf events, he was able to gain hands-on experience in an industry he loves.

Brown was excited to work in retail and events, but said it was the networking that brought great value to his internship.

“It has allowed me to continue to build strong relationships. It tested my knowledge of the golf industry, and allowed me to learn more about executive level leadership within an organization,” said Brown.

An active member of the campus community, the Student Government Association president credits his Ship experience for providing him with the poise and skills he needed for his internship.

“Throughout my time at Shippensburg University, I have gained a lot of confidence and a level of emotional intelligence from the people I have met to the positions I hold.”

And while he’s thankful for his summer internship experience and excited for a possible future in the golf industry, he is happy to be back at Ship. He’s hopeful for a year that is a little more par for the course.

“I am looking forward to serving as SGA president and leading the student body back to an engaging, energetic and inclusive Ship experience,” he explained.
