Four Volleyball Players named to the 2022 Division II Academic All-District ® Team

The Shippensburg University women's volleyball team had four 2022 Division II Academic All-District ® honorees, an award that recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom.
 
Sophomore Kelsie Baus is an academic junior who is majoring in biology with a concentration in pre-dentistry. She maintains a 3.73 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) through the completion of 70 credits.
 
Baus appeared in 20 matches and played 50 sets for the Raiders this season. She had multiple digs in 9-of-20 matches, including a season-high eight digs, and had multiple aces in three matches, including a career-high five aces against West Chester. She totaled 12 assists, 12 aces, 40 digs this season and has played in 46 career matches with 156 career digs, 33 career assists and 17 career aces.
 
Sophomore Maddie Clabaugh is an academic junior who is majoring in psychology. She maintains a 3.82 GPA through the completion of 61 credits.
 
Clabaugh appeared in 30 matches and had 26 starts for the Raiders this season. She ranked fourth on the team in kills (219) and had 10 or more kills in 10-of-30 matches, including a career-high 21 kills. Clabaugh had multiple kills in 26-of-30 matches and totaled 133 digs, 34 blocks and a .128 hitting percentage this season.
 
Redshirt-senior Alex Leitner is an academic senior who is majoring in psychology. She has a 3.67 GPA through the completion of more than 90 credits.
 
Leitner appeared in 27 matches as a defensive specialist/libero for the Raiders. She ranked fourth on the team for digs (189) and had 10 or more digs in 9-of-27 matches, including a season-high 19 digs. Leitner had multiple aces in 8-of-27 matches, including a season high of three aces. In her two seasons as a Raider she totaled 93 assists and 656 digs, which is 3.17 digs per set, and had 45 aces.
 
Kaitlyn Townsend is an academic junior who is majoring in criminal justice. She has a 3.62 GPA through the completion of more than 80 credits.
 
Townsend appeared in 28 matches and started in 15. She ranks fifth on the team for kills (111). Townsend had five or more kills in 13 matches and also had multiple blocks in 13 matches, including a career-high nine block assists. Overall, she has played in 64 matches in three seasons and totaled 188 kills, 100 blocks (10 block solos, 90 assisted) and 45 digs.
 
The Academic All-District ® Team is selected by the College Sports Communicators.
 
All four Raiders are now among those eligible for consideration for the Academic All-America ® Team that will be announced Dec. 21.
