FOIA Request to Cumberland County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

In a bid to ensure transparency and accountability in the upcoming Pennsylvania Spring Elections, we at Cumberland Valley News have sent a formal request to the Cumberland County Election Department. The request was made under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law, 65 §66.1 et seq., and seeks comprehensive information about all candidates running for office in the forthcoming elections.

The requested information includes the full names of all candidates (first, middle, and last), the offices they are running for, their jurisdiction of office, and their party affiliations. In addition to these details, we have also requested contact information for each candidate. This encompasses their addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses.

As a media organization committed to providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

We have requested that this information be provided in an electronic format for ease of dissemination and analysis. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
