Planning Commission Looking for College Student to Serve on Board
The Cumberland County Planning Commission is looking for a college student to serve as a non-voting member for 2023. Students interested in serving must live in Cumberland County or be enrolled in a college/university in the county and will serve up to a 2-year term, beginning in Feb. 2023.
The commission includes a 9-member volunteer board appointed by the Cumberland County Commissioners. Its mission is to partner with our urban, suburban, and rural communities to implement plans that promote economic development, provide more housing and transportation choices, and protect clean air, land, and water.
Students interested in serving on the board should have a demonstrated interest in local government, economic development, land use, transportation, or environmental planning.
To be considered, students need to complete an application and submit a one-page resume. Application materials are due by Monday, Jan. 2, 2023. Applicants are expected to attend the commission’s monthly meetings at 7:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month in Carlisle.
Students who have any questions regarding the appointment process or responsibilities of the position can call 717.240.5381 or email kdstoner@cumberlandcountypa.gov. Applications can be emailed, mailed or hand-delivered to the Cumberland County Planning Department, 310 Allen Road, Suite 101, Carlisle PA 17013.
Commission board members and staff will review applications and may conduct interviews to identify the best possible student representative.
“The commission believes that inclusion of a student member on our organization will diversify the board to include important representation from a segment of the population that will have a unique perspective and opportunity to shape the future of Cumberland County,” said Cumberland County Director of Planning Kirk Stoner.
