CARLISLE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: SHRM student chapter earns Superior Merit Award

Carlisle Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Jul. 19.

The Bosler Memorial Library is a vibrant community gathering place that supports the Carlisle area through a wide range of high quality services. Bosler is an independent 501(c) (3) run by a dedicated Board of Directors, whose goal is to provide these services to all community members. Business Office Assistant
Job Title: Business Office Assistant

Department: Business Office

Reports to: Business Manager

Classification: Part-time – Non-exempt

Compensation: $14.00 per hour

Required for employment: State driver’s license and proof of insurance; ability to lift 25 lbs. unassisted; a criminal background check; child abuse clearance; and FBI fingerprinting.

Job Summary
Assists with the routine bookkeeping duties of the Business Office and provides assistance with special projects and reporting when necessary. Assists with the payroll process and other human resources duties.

 Minimum Qualifications
·  Two years general bookkeeping experience.

·  Two years of experience using MS Office Suite or equivalent.

·  Proficiency with 10-key operations.

Preferred Qualifications
· Associate degree in Accounting or Business related field.

Functions and Responsibilities
  1. General knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices.
  2. Ability to accurately and efficiently record routine and cyclical business transactions, such as cash receipts and accounts payable into the accounting software.
  3. Demonstrates ability to work independently; completing regular duties and additional assigned tasks. Keeps supervisor apprised of status of ongoing projects.
  4. Organizes, proofreads, and copies potentially confidential information and maintains confidentiality unless instructed by your supervisor that it can be treated differently.
  5. Responsible for reconciling transactions and maintaining appropriate spreadsheets.
  6. Prepares and makes bank deposits. Records deposits into accounting software.
  7. Reviews monthly bank statements.
  8. Assists with payroll, human resources duties, and maintenance of personnel records.
  9. Assists with other business office duties and activities.
  10. Understands and applies Library policies.
  11. Performs other related duties.

Communications: Writes and speaks clearly, logically and concisely. Listens effectively. Demonstrates small and large group communication skills. Keeps colleagues, team members and supervisors well informed. Participates in group discussions.

Customer Service: Presents welcoming behaviors. Remains helpful and professional with customers. Responds quickly and cooperatively to requests from staff or public. Follows Bosler Memorial Library guidelines and training for customer service approach. Demonstrates ability to determine customer needs. Follows up on customer transactions.

Analytical Skills/Problem Solving/Decision Making: Uses sound judgment in making decisions. Constructively manages conflict. Works with others to solve problems and achieve results.

Technological Skills: Demonstrates ability to use computers. Demonstrates ability to access and use the Internet and electronic databases. Demonstrates ability to use and maintain equipment basic to job.

Workplace Maintenance/Management: Maintains and manages workplace security and safety. Pays attention to personal workspace housekeeping.

Flexibility and Adaptability: Remains calm in difficult, ambiguous, and challenging situations. Responds appropriately to changes in direction and priorities. Adapts personal style to work situations. Takes corrective action when required.

Interpersonal and Group Relationships: Willing to work with and for others. Supports and facilitates cooperation among others.

Professional Standards and Ethics: Protects and values patron confidentiality and organizational security. Supports mission and vision of the library. Upholds ALA's Library Code of Ethics as interpreted by Bosler Memorial Library. Works toward furthering a library-conscious community.

Professional Development and Leadership: Seeks opportunities to pursue one's personal goals and those of the organization. Sets and models high performance standards. Encourages others to make good decisions and take ownership in decision-making and problem-solving.

Time and Workflow Management: Manages personal time effectively. Manages workflow effectively.

Environmental Conditions
Primarily works indoors, seated at a desk, using a computer.  Attends meetings and planning sessions.  Provides own transportation and is reimbursed accordingly.

Development Assistant
Job Title: Development Assistant

Department: Development

Reports to: Development Officer

Classification: Part-time, Non-exempt

Job Summary
The Development Assistant provides administrative support to the Development Officer in the planning, coordination and implementation of fundraising campaigns and activities. Duties and responsibilities include gift processing, database management, filing, assistance with event planning and logistics, and other duties as assigned. Hours of work may include some evenings and weekends.

 Minimum Qualifications
· Minimum of two years of experience in a similar position

· Knowledge of fundraising techniques and strategies

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Working knowledge of and experience with software applications including Microsoft Office, Adobe and databases.

Preferred Qualifications
· Undergraduate degree

· Nonprofit experience

· Experience working in a public library would be viewed favorably

Functions and Responsibilities
  1. Provides administrative support to the Development Officer.
  2. Performs processing and data-entry of charitable gifts while playing a major role in maintaining the overall integrity and quality of the donor database including regular data improvement and maintenance.
  3. Generates gift acknowledgment letters on a timely basis.
  4. Keeps paper copy files in order and up-to-date.
  5. Supports the various functions of the Development office through activities such as creating and maintaining donor lists, preparing mail materials such as invitations, solicitations and newsletters. Handles confidential donor information via database, hard copy records and Development Committee discussions in a professional manner.
  6. Assists with donor event planning and logistics.
  7. Stewards the “Name a Day” program to ensure implementation of all donor recognition.
  8. Aids in the development of basic content for print and electronic publications and social media.
  9. Protects donor confidentiality. Upholds AFP’s Code of Ethical Standards.
  10. Remains helpful and professional with donors. Demonstrates ability to determine donor needs. Follows up on donor transactions.
  11. Represents the Library at events and meetings.
  12. Attends staff trainings and continuing education workshops. 
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.
