Rep. Thomas Kutz of Cumberland County has announced that South Middleton Township will receive a $49,048 grant from the Watershed Restoration Protection Program. This funding is intended for a bioswale project aimed at improving water quality in Yellow Breeches Creek.

The Watershed Restoration Protection Program is part of the Marcellus Legacy Fund, established under Act 13 of 2012. It supports projects that address nonpoint source polluted runoff to restore or maintain stream reaches. The ultimate goal is to remove these streams from the Department of Environmental Protection’s Impaired Waters list.

Kutz emphasized the importance of Yellow Breeches Creek, stating, “The Yellow Breeches helps feed water wells in the area and draws visitors for recreational purposes, including fishing.” He added, “My family has enjoyed visiting the creek for generations. I’m pleased to support this project, which will benefit all.”

The project involves retrofitting an existing grass swale into a vegetated bioswale near Misty Meadows neighborhood. This initiative aims to filter stormwater entering Yellow Breeches Creek and reduce sediment levels as per best management practice requirements outlined in the township’s pollution reduction plan.

Representative Thomas Kutz serves Pennsylvania’s 87th District in the House of Representatives.
