Rep. Scott Perry, a U.S. Congressman representing Pennsylvania’s 10th district since 2013, has posted a series of statements on social media regarding the national debt and the ongoing government shutdown. In his recent tweets, Perry attributes responsibility for the shutdown to Senate Democrats and highlights concerns over federal spending.
On October 2, 2025, Perry wrote: “America is broke; $37 trillion in debt – and climbing every second.”
The following day, on October 3, he addressed the status of the government shutdown by stating: “Senate Democrats can reopen the government any time they want to.”
Later that same day, Perry added: “In case there’s any confusion, this is why Democrats are shutting down the government.”
Perry’s remarks come amid an ongoing budget impasse in Congress that has resulted in a partial government shutdown. He has served as a member of Congress since replacing Todd Platts in 2013 and previously held office in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2007 to 2012. Born in San Diego in 1962 and currently residing in Dillsburg, Perry graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1991.
