State House Representatives Barb Gleim, Martina White, and Stephanie Borowicz have expressed their approval following the Senate Education Committee’s decision to advance the Save Women’s Sports Act. This legislative move aims to ensure fairness, safety, and equal opportunities for female athletes in Pennsylvania.

“We applaud the Senate Education Committee for taking an important step today by advancing the Save Women’s Sports Act out of committee,” they stated. The representatives emphasized their commitment as prime co-sponsors of similar legislation in the House to uphold biological distinctions in sports and protect women’s athletics’ integrity.

The legislators voiced concerns about males competing on female sports teams, which they believe undermines progress made over decades. They argued that this situation disadvantages young women regarding field performance, scholarship opportunities, and athletic achievement pursuits.

“Recent federal efforts to restore Title IX to its original intent have been encouraging,” they noted but stressed that more work is needed as many policies still erode Title IX protections. They insisted that daughters deserve a level playing field for practice, competition, and success.

The General Assembly has previously addressed this issue but faced vetoes from former Governor Tom Wolf. “Nearly 80% of Americans agree: men should not play on women’s sports teams,” they asserted. The representatives urged House Democratic leadership to bring this matter to a full vote.

They concluded by stating that “today marks a meaningful step forward in the modern fight for women’s rights” while defending Title IX and ensuring competitive sports remain merit-based arenas.
