Rep. Thomas Kutz of Cumberland County has announced a total of $3.7 million in grant funding for projects within the 87th Legislative District. The grants, approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, come from the Local Share Account (LSA) and Public School Facility Improvement (PSFIG) programs.
Kutz emphasized the need for infrastructure improvements due to Cumberland County’s rapid growth. “Cumberland County is among the fastest-growing counties in the Commonwealth, and our existing infrastructure needs to be improved or expanded upon to accommodate new residents,” he stated. He expressed support for projects that invest in the community for both current and future constituents.
The LSA grants include $101,840 for Silver Spring Township to renovate the historic Junkin House into a museum, and $600,000 for constructing a new public works building in response to high growth rates. Greenlight Operation will receive $148,225 for purchases related to their restoration house aiding human trafficking victims. South Middleton Township Municipal Authority is set to improve water and sewer services with a $90,000 grant. Lower Allen Township will use $457,466 to purchase Automated External Defibrillators as part of its 4-Minute City Initiative.
Public School Facility Improvement grants include $330,000 for Cumberland Perry Area Career and Technology Center’s HVAC system replacement. Mechanicsburg Area Middle School will receive $1 million for HVAC cooling system improvements, while Boiling Springs High School is granted another $1 million for window replacements and internet connectivity projects.
Kutz collaborated with Senators Greg Rothman and Mike Regan to secure these funds. Rothman commented on the importance of these projects: “These infrastructure, public works and preservation projects are important to our community,” adding his satisfaction with the benefits these grants bring.
