State Representative Barb Gleim of Cumberland has expressed her disappointment following a decision by House Democrat leadership to re-refer the Save Women’s Sports Act to the House Health Committee. The act, authored by Gleim, aims to protect women’s sports.
Gleim stated, “The decision by House Democrat leaders and members of the House Education Committee who voted in favor of shifting Senate Bill 9 to another committee are ignoring the voices of women and girls who deserve the protections it gives them. They are also turning a deaf ear to the voices of an overwhelming number of Pennsylvanians who do not want biological men participating in women’s sports.”
She further criticized the Democrats for disregarding an executive order from former President Donald Trump which opposes male participation in women’s sports. According to Gleim, this could risk losing funds for educational programs that deprive women and girls of fair athletic opportunities.
“This is an education issue which has everything to do with safety and maintaining opportunities for women athletes, while fulfilling the goals of Title IX,” said Gleim. She added that she is disappointed with what she perceives as a lack of intention from the majority party to move forward with Senate Bill 9 or her own House Bill 158.
Representative Barb Gleim serves Pennsylvania’s 199th Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
