Rep. Barb Gleim announced that fire and emergency response organizations in Cumberland County’s 199th Legislative District will receive grants from the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program. Gleim expressed gratitude for the dedication of first responders, stating, “Our fire and EMS companies continue to be stretched thin while providing top-notch services to the communities they serve, which is why this funding is so vital.”
The grants are distributed by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC) to companies that apply and meet specific requirements. Each company must file a grant agreement with OSFC to receive their funds.
The recipients include:
– Cumberland Goodwill Fire Rescue EMS: $15,000
– Empire Friendship Firefighters Association: $15,000
– Friendship Hose Co. 1 Inc. (Fire): $14,034
– Friendship Hose Co. 1 Inc. (EMS): $15,000
– Newburg Hopewell Volunteer Fire Co.: $13,832
– North Middleton Township Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1: $16,173
– Penn Township Volunteer Fire Co.: $13,839
– West Pennsboro Volunteer Fire Co.: $13,450
This funding initiative was established by the Legislature and is managed by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency along with OSFC. The funds originate from slot machine gaming proceeds rather than General Fund tax revenue. Eligible projects for funding include facilities, equipment, debt reduction, training, education, recruitment and retention among others.
