Today, the United States House of Representatives passed Congressman Scott Perry’s Falun Gong Protection Act. This legislation aims to impose sanctions on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for its involvement in forced organ harvesting and other human rights violations against Falun Gong practitioners.
Congressman Perry emphasized the importance of this measure, stating, “The United States, as the beacon of freedom around the world, cannot be silent when the Chinese Community Party is engaged in systemic torturing, incarceration, and forced organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners.” He expressed his encouragement at Congress taking steps to hold the CCP accountable.
In 2020, an Independent Tribunal into Forced Organ Harvesting from Prisoners of Conscience in China reported a significant discrepancy between transplant operations in China and registered donors. It highlighted that Falun Gong practitioners are a primary source for these organs.
The act mandates sanctions on individuals involved in or facilitating forced organ harvesting. It also requires the Secretary of State to assess whether CCP’s actions against Falun Gong amount to crimes against humanity or genocide. Furthermore, it includes a policy directive for the U.S. to avoid cooperation with China while its forced organ transplant industry persists.
These measures underscore growing global awareness about human rights abuses against those seeking religious freedom, like Falun Gong practitioners.
