Carlisle Borough has received a $675,000 grant from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) for infrastructure improvements. This funding will support the Carlisle Noble Boulevard School Zone Shared-Use Path Project, as announced by state Senator Greg Rothman and Representative Barb Gleim.

“Sen. Rothman and I are proud to support this project, which is a collaboration between the borough and the Carlisle Area School District to increase pedestrian and bicycle safety for residents and students,” Gleim stated. She emphasized that “the plan in place will make school walkable for many students, as well as create a safer environment for seniors.” The intersection of North Hanover Street with Noble Boulevard is considered one of the most hazardous in Pennsylvania, prompting efforts to address safety concerns.

Rothman added, “These infrastructure improvements will make the area safer for all residents, especially students and seniors.” He expressed satisfaction in advocating for this initiative.

The project aims to promote alternative transportation methods, reduce stormwater runoff volume, and enhance access and connectivity among trail networks, neighborhoods, commercial areas, public services, and transportation hubs.

The CFA operates under the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. It approves grants through its Multimodal Transportation Fund to foster economic development while ensuring safe transportation systems across Pennsylvania. The funds can be used for developing or enhancing transportation assets within communities including streetscape projects, lighting improvements, sidewalk enhancements, pedestrian safety measures, connectivity initiatives, and transit-oriented developments.
